Introduction:

There are many different kinds of animals in the world, but have you ever wondered what kinds of animal INSECTS live right here in Illinois? I think you would be surprised to find that your own home state has many interesting and unusual insects, maybe even right in your own back yard! Let’s find out more!

2. Task:

You want to become an Illinois entomologist! That means you like to study insects, especially insects from Illinois.  You have been given the job of finding as many insects as you can in Illinois and collecting information about them.  You will work with a partner to answer some questions, like: What is the insect called? Where does it live? What does it look like? What does it eat? How does it survive? Are there any interesting facts about the insect? You will eventually publish a book called “Bugs of Illinois” then you will be (almost) famous! You better get started!

 3. Process:

You and you partner will choose an insect to write about by clicking on a picture. You will read about that insect and then answer as many questions as you can on the worksheet that you will print out. When you are finished looking up as many insects as you can, tell your teacher so you can publish your book. When your book is published, you can do some of the additional activities at the end of the

“Gone Buggy in Illinois” Web Quest. To get started, just follow the procedures below:

1.    Choose at least five interesting looking INSECTS to write about with your partner by clicking on the insect’s picture.

2.    Print out the BOOK PAGE INSTRUCTIONS and follow the directions for each insect you choose to study.

3.    Print out a BOOK PAGE for each insect you research. You will need to answer all of the questions from the instruction sheet, and draw a picture for each insect you research. You will need a new page for each insect.

4.    So, click on an insect that interest you, read all about it, write about it and draw a picture.  Complete one page for at least five different insects, but you can do more than five if you want!

5.    When the five insect pages (or more) are complete, you will need to complete a book page for the THREE MORE QUESTIONS that appear after the insect pictures. Just click on the question, read the answers and complete the BOOK PAGE ANSWER SHEET that goes with each question.

6.    When you have finished all the pages, tell your teacher so you can finish and publish your book.
