Introduction - We have read or will be reading Flat Stanley, Stanley and the Magic Lamp, Stanley in Space, and Stanley, Flat Again. We will be applying the book themes and relating them to different activities of their choosing.  Click here to view Stanley in Space.

Task - Choose 2 activities and the crossword puzzle to complete. Follow directions exactly for each task chosen.

Process

 

Activity # 1

1. Send a Flat Stanley to a family member in a different state.

(They have Flat Stanley’s made which they may get from me to mail out.)

Please print out and enclose this letter with Stanley.

 

2. They will create an imaginary adventure for Flat Stanley. This could include pictures, videotapes, and should include a letter about his adventure.

 

3. Then make a map to show where he traveled.

 

 

Activity # 2

Science Connections

1. Use two dowel rods to make the cross of the kite. Tape them together.

2. Take heavy paper that has been pre-cut to about two inches wider than the dowels and let students decorate the kites.

3. Staple the kite to the frame turning under the edges.

4. Add a tail with streamers to the kite, stapling it to the bottom of the kite.

5. Staple string to the cross bars of the kite.

6. Bring to school and present it to your classmates.

7. Try to fly it on a windy day.  Have fun! J

 

Activity # 3

1. Make a poster or diorama that shows events that happened in one of the Stanley books, which we have read.

2. Bring it to school and present it to your reading class.

 

Activity # 4

1.  Write a one-paragraph book report on one of the Stanley books.

2.  Your paragraph must include the following components:  (Must be their own work)

It must be indented.

It must contain a topic sentence.

It must have five details about the book.

It must include a closing sentence.

It may include what you liked about the book.

It must have proper punctuation/capitalization.

It must be neat.
