“Excretory” System

Text Box: How it works:
1) Our blood is filtered through tiny tubes in kidneys.
2) Hungry – when dinnertime, body sends out signals to show low on
nutrients.
3) When a person eats, the epiglottis closes off the air tube and the food
   goes down the esophagus.
4) Large intestine has 2 main jobs. It moves fluids and salt from materials that
come from the small intestine. It also ejects the solid waste that remains.

What Body Parts are Included:
1) Lungs – get rid of carbon dioxide and water vapor when you
exhale
2) Kidneys – get rid of extra water, salt, and waste in blood – leaves as
urine (click the word kidneys to play a game)
3) Skin – gets rid of water, salt, and waste – leaves as sweat
4) Large Intestine – wide tube where water is absorbed and wastes are
eliminated
5) Small Intestine – a small tube (winding) where digestion is completed and
the blood empties into large intestine, absorbs nutrients

What System Needs to Work Properly:
1)	Pores and sweat glands to dispose of liquids
2)	Plenty of sleep, eat healthy, and exercise

Interesting facts/info.
1)	Blood passes through kidneys 300 times a day
2)	Nephrons clean all your blood in 45 minutes
3)	Kidneys 10 cm + 8 cm wide, shaped like a bean
4)	Body removes 1.5 liters of waste a day
5)	The body gets rid of natural gasses, which can be fatal if not released from the body
How the System Prevents Diseases:
1)	Urinating
2)	Sweating (gets rid of salt wastes)
