 Immune System

How it works:

It protects your body from pathogenic organisms, and diseased organisms. When the bacteria invade your body, the system tries to keep it out by antibodies and white blood cells. Antibodies attach to bacteria and destroy them. This is step is called the immune response.

Body Parts:

White blood cells, antibodies, spleen, bone marrow, lymph nodes, lymph.

What it needs to work properly:

It needs lots of nutrition, hygiene, and an occasional disease to continue working. Also Vitamins C & E help.

 Prevent diseases:

1)   It creates a barrier that stops bacteria/viruses from entering the body.

2)   If bacteria/viruses do get into your body, lymph nodes filter it out with lymph before it reproduces.

3)   If it does reproduce, the immune system is in charge of eliminating it.

Interesting Facts:

·        White blood cells are also called leukocytes.

·        The bone marrow and liver can take over the spleen’s functions.
