Getting to Know You

 

I.                     Objectives: 

·        Social: 

Getting to know their classmates through interviewing skills (posing questions, eliciting responses, using appropriate voice level, using appropriate eye contact, and recording responses)

 

·        Literacy:

Recognize first and last name

Write first and last name using correct capitalization

Recognize number words

Recognize color words

Follow a left to right progression

Write letters when dictated

Demonstrate an understanding of vocabulary at grade

      appropriate level

Identify upper and lower case letters out of alphabetical

      Sequence

 

II.                   Length of lesson (number of days): 

·        This project is designed to last several days both in the classroom and in the computer lab. 

 

III.                  Summary description: 

·        Because many of our children are introduced to each other for the first time in kindergarten, it is important to spend time encouraging the children to get to know one another. 

 

IV.               Technology equipment needed:

·        Computer with Power Point access, complete with a template

·        Light ware, computer, T.V., etc. (some form of multimedia for displaying slide show)

·        Digital camera

 

V.                 Supplemental resources needed (web sites, books, etc.):

·        Power Point template

·        Paper, pencil, clipboard

·        Digital camera

 

VI.               Procedures:

·        Teacher takes picture of each student and puts each photo into a slide/template to be saved under each student’s name. 

·        Assign each student a partner.

·        Have partners interview one another, asking the following questions.

                                                              i.      What is your first and last name?

                                                            ii.      When is your birthday?

                                                          iii.      How old are you?

                                                           iv.      What is your favorite color?

                                                             v.      How many people are in your family?

·        Students record responses.

·        Each student enters data about their partner into the pre-made Power Point template.

·        The slide show will be on display for viewers at Open House.    

 

VII.              Assessment:

·        Teacher observation

·        100% student participation with completion of the task

 

VIII.            Additional comments:

·        This is designed to be completed in the middle of kindergarten with the goal for this project to be completed for Spring Open House.
